Description
DS1307 Real-Time Clock (RTC) IC
The DS1307 RTC IC is a widely used low-power Real-Time Clock (RTC) designed to keep accurate time and calendar information even when the main system power is turned off. By using a 3V backup battery (CR2032), the DS1307 continues operating during power interruptions, making it ideal for applications requiring continuous timekeeping.
The IC communicates through a simple I²C (Two-Wire) interface, allowing seamless integration with microcontrollers such as Arduino, STM32, ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi, and other embedded platforms.
The DS1307 tracks seconds, minutes, hours (12/24-hour format), day, date, month, and year, with automatic leap-year compensation up to the year 2100. It also includes 56 bytes of battery-backed SRAM for storing user data and provides a programmable square-wave output for timing applications.
The device requires an external 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator for accurate clock generation and is commonly available in an 8-pin DIP package, making it suitable for breadboards, development boards, and PCB prototyping.
